EVENT CANCELLED

Due to forecast adverse weather conditions impacting event set-up, and with these conditions highly likely to continue into New Year’s Eve, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all five New Year’s Eve community celebrations at Matua, Pāpāmoa, Mount Maunganui, Greerton, and Tauranga city centre.

Weather permitting, we are still planning to go ahead with the fireworks displays at 9.30pm and midnight, which are designed to be visible from across the city. This means you can enjoy the fireworks from where you’re already celebrating, or from a safe, elevated vantage point.

All further updates regarding the fireworks will be shared on the Tauranga City Council Facebook and Instagram pages.

Let’s welcome 2026 with an evening full of music, laughter and community vibes at Fergusson Park in Matua.

Expect live music, roaming performers, a delicious selection of food trucks, kids’ activities, and an MC to host the evening. It’s the perfect way to welcome in the new year together, so we invite you to come down and bring your friends and whānau.

For those with sensory sensitivities or accessibility needs, there will be an earlier celebration from 5pm to 6pm with reduced sound and smaller crowds.

Time:
5pm to 6pm: Sensory-friendly celebration with limited sound and crowds.
6pm: The main event starts and will finish with fireworks at 9.30pm.

Things to bring:
A picnic blanket or something comfy to sit on – perfect for relaxing between all the fun.
Your own kai, or treat yourselves to something tasty from the food trucks on site.
With the afternoon sun shining, don’t forget to slip, slop, slap and wrap.
If anyone in your whānau has sensory sensitivities, bring headphones to help reduce sound at the main events.
Pack smart, waste less - bring your own reusable water bottles, cups, and containers to help reduce waste.
Cash or card to purchase drinks and snacks

Getting there:
Parking is available on site but is limited, so make a plan to ride share, walk, bus, bike, or dance your way to the celebration.

Important:
These family-friendly events are alcohol, vape and smoke-free, with temporary and permanent liquor bans in place at and around the site so everyone can enjoy a safe, family-friendly night out

This event is one of Tauranga City Council’s five free community celebrations. For more details on the other community celebrations, visit the Tauranga City Council New Year's Eve website.
