Michael Morris and The Sonic Boom is a five-piece alt rock project from Dunedin, New Zealand. The band is announcing a tour of NZ in April 2026, to celebrate the release of a 22 song double album (titled Love Sensation and Destination Down).
The music is high energy and fun, mixing the excitement of high octane 70’s rock with the raw power and emotion of 90’s grunge. “Amped up, pop rock poetics with wild guitar solos” - UTR. Composed of songwriter/frontman Michael Morris (formerly of The River Jesters and Live Like Lions), Benton Glassey (bass), Ben Morton (drums), Matthew Blick (guitar) and Jo Little (BVs, guitar) - this group of old friends will visit favourite locations and venues around their homeland, delivering lofty gifts of musical doings to the great people and discerning audiences of Aotearoa.
In recent years, Mr Morris has toured Europe and NZ on the back of his first two albums (Slow Loris - 2018 and Metamorphosis - 2022). Some highlights have included shows in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels, ending with a sold out gig in London. The project now moves forward to contribute its biggest and tastiest offering to date. Recorded in the remote south island region of The Catlins, Love Sensation and Destination Down are packed full of new songs from the heart.

“Artists of the 60’s and 70’s are considered untouchable, but Morris is here tapping the glass” Out From The Pine Box (Nashville, USA).
