This body of work, although crafted in separate studios, is a creative conversation between differing mediums about the effects of nature on our beings.

Both Suzy Granger and Emma Davie have found a language to communicate their love of how nature settles them in life. They found each other through mutual connections and shared a merged interest in how life with nature feels and influences their creativity. The work was created with continual meetings and reflections ensuring the conversation was flowing and complementing the narrative.

Through brushstroke and sculpted earth, the exhibition reflects on the natural world’s rhythms, resilience, and fragility. Inspired by landscapes, the waterways and their inhabitants, these works converge in a dialogue that speaks to the permanence and impermanence of nature. In this meeting of materials and perspectives, confluence invites viewers to consider their own relationship with the environment.

Emma:
My approach to painting is deeply intuitive and emotive, focusing on the subconscious connection between myself, the landscape, and the viewer. By allowing my paintings to emerge spontaneously, without preconceived notions or calculations, I create a space for raw expression and emotional resonance.

My use of nature and the landscape is a language to convey my experience of being profoundly moved by the world around us. Through my art, I seek to channel those ineffable moments and emotions that defy easy description, offering viewers a chance to tap into their own memories, experiences, and emotions.

Suzy:
Suzy Granger was born in Auckland, New Zealand. She lives and works in Pāpāmoa Beach, Aotearoa, New Zealand. For the past decade Suzy has been producing hand-built ceramic objects using different clays, glazes and surface manipulation techniques. Her process synthesizes traditional and non-traditional approaches producing colourful textured pieces, whose organic shapes and natural palette are inspired by her coastal environment where the artist’s outdoor studio is located.

She also founded and runs Slab Ceramics, a locally sourced ceramic design studio supplying multiple stockists in New Zealand and abroad. Slab has been profiled in numerous magazines including NZ House and Garden and Haven Magazine.
