Men’s mental wellness is affected by far more than what is often discussed inside a doctor’s consulting room.
Loneliness and social isolation, relationship breakdown, financial pressure, unemployment, chronic illness, loss of identity or purpose, and simply feeling that there is nobody you can really talk to can all have a profound effect on how men cope.
In From Striving to Thriving, Dr Adam Harrison explores social factors that can strengthen or undermine men’s mental wellness, and looks at practical steps individuals, families, and communities can take to help men build greater connection, support, and resilience.
This is not a clinical lecture or a therapy session. It is an accessible, practical conversation about the circumstances that shape men’s lives, why connection matters, and how we can create the conditions for more men to not simply survive, but thrive.
Dr Adam Harrison is the founder of Tauranga-based social enterprise Good Man Wellness, which works upstream of crisis to strengthen men’s mental wellness through connection, peer support, education and community. Adam is a former GP and medical director, as well as a barrister and certified life, leadership and executive coach. With experience across medicine, law, leadership, and coaching, he brings professional expertise and a strong interest in the social circumstances that affect men’s lives and mental wellness.
Due to the nature of the presentation, this session is open to adults only. A Q&A section will follow the main presentation.
