This special double-feature show unfolds in two exciting halves.
First up: an organ-driven trio offering a fresh, soulful take on modern jazz. Featuring session guitarist Nick Granville (bandleader), Sydney-based organist Mike Crawford, and the dynamic drumming of Wellington's Mark Lockett, the trio blends bluesy grooves, rich Hammond textures, and improvisation-fuelled energy. The result is a warm, swinging sound that’s both classic and contemporary—perfect for fans of vibrant, feel-good jazz.
Then comes the second half: Nick Granville’s Double Drum Funk Band, a high-energy, groove-heavy ensemble powered by the explosive synergy of two drummers playing side-by-side: Darren Mathiassen (Shapeshifter, Hollie Smith) and Stan Bicknell Natasha Bedingfield, Black Comet). Led by New Zealand guitarist Nick Granville, this band brings together Funk, Jazz, and Fusion with tight arrangements, a deep pocket, and plenty of improvisation. Expect everything from Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to Classic Rock, Jazz, and beyond—delivered with bold guitar work, big rhythms, and a live show that keeps audiences moving from the first note.
For the finale, Mark Lockett returns, joining the lineup for an explosive three-drummer climax. It’s jazz… just not as you’ve heard it.
