Jordyn Daniels gained her Diploma in Māori Weaving (Toi Paematua- Raranga) and a Bachelor degree in Māori Visual Art (Maunga Kura Toi- Rauangi) from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, graduating in 2019.
Since then she has continued to develop as a painter combining her knowledge of both customary and contemporary māori art practice. Her works are an exploration of mātauranga māori, inspired by atua wāhine, tupuna wāhine, whakapapa and connection to te tai ao (the natural environment).
This is expressed in her use of natural and recycled materials, and the inclusion of māori patterns drawn from kowhaiwhai, whakairo, tukutuku and tāniko. An integral part of Daniels’ practice is maintaining the cultural integrity of the customary aspects she uses in her work.
Exhibition opening preview sponsored by New World Gate Pa, Saturday 14 June 2025 at 10am. Refreshments will be available. Everyone welcome.
On display in Okorore- Ngā Toi Māori - Whare Taonga Gallery and Studios.
