Good Neighbour is an organisation playing a key role in transforming our community in the Bay of Plenty, now serving an average of 7,200 people every week.
Powered by volunteers contributing more than 25,000 hours a year, Good Neighbour provides food rescue (650 tonnes of food rescued from landfill each year, worth $4.8 million, then delivered to homes in need); practical assistance such as property maintenance and lawnmower and weed eater loans to those who find themselves in crisis without a support network (160 backyard projects and 500 mowers and weed eaters lent out annually); rescuing logs from the port and processing them into firewood for homes in need (400m³ delivered each year); a kitchen forecast to produce 25,000 community meals for those in need; a Mobile Laundry & Shower Trailer providing a forecasted 5,000 showers and laundry loads; social support addressing the underlying needs enabling whānau to discover resilience, wellbeing and purpose; the Rangatahi Ora programme supporting 120 young people through youth life skills; a Volunteer to Employment Programme forecast to help 30 people into work; community gardens providing 2,000 bunches of produce; and gathering 30,000kg of fruit from our collective backyards each year and providing it to those who are without — preventing an estimated 1.7 million kg of CO₂ in the process.
By entering into "The Good Walk" you are a part of those taking responsibility for their community by supporting Good Neighbour to continue the incredible work they are doing.
How "The Good Walk" works:
Participants, whether individually or as part of a group, will pledge to complete at least 30 walks over the course of October.
To enhance the experience, each entrant or group will gather sponsorships either per lap or through fixed donations.
This not only encourages a healthy lifestyle and fosters relationships, but also supports a worthy community cause. Donations given will be matched, dollar for dollar!
Join us in walking the extra mile for a cause that matters. Together, let's make every step count!
Thank you to our local match funders supporting "The Good Walk"; Holland Beckett Lawyers, Tauranga ITM and Ryans Double Glazing.
