We made Bangerz for everyone who’s over boujee New Year’s plans - the ones who’d rather be yelling throwback tunes like they’re on a field trip bus, snacking like it’s 1999, and dancing with their mates till their knees remind them they’re definitely not 17 anymore.

Now in its eighth year, The Mount’s biggest throwback New Year’s party is back - and this time, we’re bringing back the high school dance… but with better music, legal booze, and absolutely no teachers dragging you off the dance floor for grinding.

DJ Your Girl Richard (Emily C. Browning) is flying up from Ōtautahi Christchurch. She’s lived in LA, worked with the writers behind Dua Lipa and Maroon 5, and she’s about to prove the South Island can out-party the North.

  • First Love Gelato on deck with a retro ice cream stall serving nostalgia by the scoop (for purchase).
  • Free photo booth for printed proof you peaked in 2025.
  • Awards like “Dance Floor Royalty,” and “Best Throwback Fit,”
  • Mount Brewing Co pouring icy cold ones, plus wines, RTDs, and maybe a questionable punch bowl if the night gets rowdy.

We’ll be handing out old-school lollies and chaotic mid-dancefloor treats like it’s the canteen at lunchtime after a fire drill.

So grab your crew, throw on your favourite decade fit - 70s disco, 80s glam, 90s grunge, 00s “Myspace angles only” - and relive the high school dance energy… except this time, your crush might actually plant a smooch.

Tickets are non-refundable. R18 event - valid NZ ID required (passport, driver licence, or Kiwi Access card).
