Step into the wild and celebrate the joy of play at Nature Play Day, an event for children and their families to experience together. Set in the lush surrounds of Tutarawānanga - Yatton Park, we will offer creative prompts that spark imagination, movement and connection with nature. This event is an exciting new addition to Tauranga City Council's extended Children's Day celebrations in 2026.
On the day, you’ll discover playful stations that invite you to build, explore, and create. Whether you're mixing forest potions, building tiny worlds, following clues through the bush, or simply lying back and watching the clouds drift by – there’s something for everyone. Our Nature Play Day is a self-guided experience to be explored at your own pace. This special Nature Play Day supports you to see familiar outdoor spaces in a whole new light – a quiet park becomes a world of adventure, imagination, and endless possibility!
Tutarawānanga - Yatton Park offers natural shade, a drinking fountain, and toilets. Parking at the reserve is available, as well as on-street parking. There are bus connections along Fraser Street. Please come prepared for the weather and bring your own drink bottle.
Guidance for the activities will be provided by the Nature Library team, however parents/carers are responsible for supervising children. Any weather-related updates to this event will be shared via Tauranga City Council social media pages.
